Why I Created HeyHopscotch
After years working in digital marketing, I noticed a pattern, often the most valuable thing I could offer small businesses or freelancers was just one honest, focused hour of advice. This is where I could make the biggest difference and have the most impact.
Time and again, friends, peers and clients came to me for guidance. Sometimes they needed a second opinion before spending money on a website or reassurance about their next business move. More often than not, I found myself saying, “If I were in your shoes, I’d do this instead,” and pointing them toward simpler, more cost-effective options.
What struck me was how grateful people were for this clarity and how much money, time, and stress it saved them…and also how good it made me feel giving them this gift. But I also realised two things: first, that so many women like me were giving away their expertise for free (or for far too little), and second, that small business owners were often about to make big, expensive decisions without enough real-world advice.
I’ve worked for mentoring companies where I was paid by the hour to support small businesses, but even then, it felt like the value of my time and the impact I could make wasn’t quite right. I knew I wasn’t alone. There are so many talented, experienced women out there who want to help others, but struggle to find a way to do it that fits around their lives and feels truly worthwhile.
That’s why I started HeyHopscotch. I wanted to create a platform where practical, honest advice is easy to access and where the people giving that advice are properly valued. It’s not a course, a membership, or a community with endless commitments. It’s just one good hour: a focused, friendly conversation that gives you clarity, confidence, and the next steps you actually need.
